Meetings Price Accessibility for Less-Resourced Countries

Meeting discounts for scientists in lower-income countries

Individuals in lower-income countries pay less to register for three annual APS meetings: March Meeting, April Meeting, the 2024 Gaseous Electronics Conference, and the Division of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics Meeting.

  • Residents in lower-income or lower-middle-income countries receive nearly a 90% discount.
  • Residents in upper-middle-income countries receive over a 70% discount.

These discounts reflect APS's commitment to supporting scientists around the world.

About the price accessibility initiative

Benefits to the physics community

The March, April, and DAMOP Meetings are opportunities for all physicists, regardless of race, nationality, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation, to join together and share their research, learn from others, and collaborate. Accessibility in registration pricing is an important step in removing barriers of attendance for those who can both contribute to and benefit from a global scientific community of peers.

Developing the pricing structure

These tiers were developed using GDP per capita and World Bank classifications.

A subcommittee within the APS Committee on International Scientific Affairs, in collaboration with APS leadership, carefully constructed this new structure as part of a larger movement toward offering a “welcoming global hub” and serving physicists worldwide.

APS meeting fees are evaluated each year to reflect the current costs of hosting each event.
