Science Writing Intern

The American Physical Society (APS), the world’s leading association of physicists, is offering a full-time Science Writing Intern position starting December 2009. This position will be a 6-month, full-time paid position, based at APS Headquarters in College Park, MD.

The intern’s duties will include: assisting the APS Head of Media Relations in preparing short news items for APS Tip Sheets, as well as identifying and summarizing newsworthy journal papers and APS conference presentations.  In addition, the intern will post items on physics blogs and other internet outlets, and write a range of stories for APS News, a monthly tabloid distributed to the APS members. Other duties may involve participating in meetings of the APS/AIP media team, participating in planning meetings for APS News, and producing physics podcasts for general audiences.

Qualifications: Advanced undergraduate physics course work, BA/BS in physics preferred. Some writing courses or published writing for non-scientists

 

The position is based at our headquarters office in College Park.
