Dear OSAPS members,

To celebrate the newly changed name of our organization from the Ohio Section of the APS to the Ohio-Region Section of the APS (note that we still keep the same acronym - OSAPS), the executive committee members of OSAPS have suggested that a section logo would be very useful. Therefore, all members of OSAPS are invited to come up with designs for a logo that would eventually be placed on the web page, on stationary, posters, gadgets etc.

Some guidelines for logo designs:

  1. One can use the original APS logo, but without modifying it! See Figure 1 in the examples for the original logo design.
  2. One can come up with an entirely new design, without including the APS logo.
  3. Ideally, the acronym, OSAPS, would be prevalent in the logo.
  4. Think of how the design would look after being printed (i.e. thickness of the lines, fonts of the letters, colors etc.) in different media, e.g. letterhead, t-shirts, posters.

How to submit a design:

  1. save the image (preferably) as a .jpg or .gif file;
  2. send it to: m-caragiu@onu.edu
  3. deadline for submitting the designs: Sept. 1st, 2007

And now the best part:

The winning logo design will be picked to represent the organization, and the designer will be awarded a monetary prize of $100. The winner will be announced at the OSAPS Fall 2007 meeting at Miami University, at which time he/she will receive the money (and will be covered with glory :) ).

Examples:

The four figures at the right are offered to stimulate your creativity: the original APS logo (Fig. 1); one suggested design which does not include the APS logo (Fig. 2); and two other suggested designs which do rely on the APS logo (Figs. 3 and 4).

Provision:

It is very probable that the best logo design (the winner!) will be slightly modified before being officially adopted (i.e. lines, fonts, colors could be changed), according to the suggestions of the national APS headquarters.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS, AND PLEASE BE CREATIVE!
