Tachyons: Messengers from the Future?

March 16, 2023
Virtual

Date: Thursday, March 16, 2023
Title: Tachyons: Messengers from the Future?
Speaker: Robert Ehrlich, George Mason University Physics & Astronomy Department, Chairman (Retired)
Time: 1:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada). Please note this talk is on Thursday, March 16.

Abstract: If it were possible for particles to exceed the speed of light this might allow messages to be send back in time. Unlike most physicists, the speaker believes that faster than light particles, known as tachyons, actually do exist. His recent book Hunting the Faster than Light Tachyon describes his and other's multi-decades long hunt for these elusive subatomic particles. As his book describes, Ehrlich even thinks that he may have received a message from the future during the course of his research.

Bio: Ehrlich received his Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University. in 1964.  He chaired the George Mason University Physics & Astronomy Department from which he retired in 2013 after teaching there 33 years. He has written over 22 books and over 100 articles on particle physics and other subjects https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ehrlich_(physicist).
