User Innovation Module

Activity Description:

A module on "User Innovation" is developed to guide students through a multi-step process starting from a focus on needs / pains, discovery of opportunities, establishment of a team project including business model canvas, patent search and prototyping.

Level: Advanced (Junior/Senior)

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate an ability to identify needs, recognize pains, and discover opportunities.
  • Develop a team project leading to creating a prototype.
  • Exhibit entrepreneurial mindset and leverage technical skills.

Duration:
300-375 minutes class time plus out of class activities

Target Audience:
Undergraduate science and engineering students, or students from other disciplines with demonstrated technical knowledge.

Suggested context for implementation:
Module can be included in an existing course that can culminate in an individual or group project. Could also be used for a capstone course centered on student-defined problems.
