Michael Alan Beer
Princeton University

Citation:

"For fundamental contributions to the development of simulations of gyrofluid equations for studying tokamak plasma turbulence, including a novel fluid model of trapped electrons that led to realistic comparisons with experiments."

Background:

Dr. Beer received his Ph.D. in December 1994 from Princeton University where his thesis advisor was Dr. Greg Hammett. He received his BSE in 1989 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is currently working at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory where he was awarded an appointment to the US Department of Energy Fusion Energy Postdoctoral Research Program administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education. His current research focuses on the development of fluid models for plasma turbulence and simulations of turbulent transport in tokamaks and magnetic confinement fusion experiments.
