Citation:

"For experimental contributions toward the measurement of low-energy nuclear cross sections using inertial confinement fusion."

Background:

Katelyn Cook graduated magna cum laude from Houghton College with a Bachelors of Science in Physics and Mathematics in May 2019. For her undergraduate thesis, she worked to develop a technique to measure low-energy nuclear cross sections using inertial confinement fusion. Katelyn presented this work at the 2017 and 2018 APS DPP meetings earning the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Poster Award and the 2019 APS DNP meeting as a part of the Conference Experience for Undergraduates. In addition to studying physics and math, Katelyn also played first base for the Houghton College softball team. She is a currently a first year graduate student at Florida State University with the goal of studying experimental nuclear physics with astrophysical implications.
