Citation:

"for pioneering studies of the electrostatic, elastic, and conformational behavior of single-stranded nucleic acids."

Background:

David Jacobson is currently a NIST-NRC postdoctoral fellow, working with Prof. Thomas Perkins at JILA (NIST and University of Colorado Boulder) to study membrane protein folding using atomic force microscopy. He completed his Ph.D. in 2016 at the University of California, Santa Barbara under Prof. Omar Saleh, where he used magnetic tweezers force spectroscopy and other techniques to study the electrostatic, elastic, and conformational behavior of single-stranded nucleic acids. Support for his Ph.D. was provided by a National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship. Prior to that, he was a Vagelos Scholar in the molecular life sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a B.A. in physics and biochemistry in 2011. At Penn, his physical chemistry research under Prof. Ivan Dmochowski led to the first measurement of radon binding to a discrete molecular species.
