Citation:

"for the systematic development, dissemination, and evaluation of the physics education tool, PhET Interactive Simulations project, used world-wide by millions of students and their teachers."

Background:

Emily B. Moore received a B.S. in chemical physics in 2006 and a Ph.D. in computational chemistry in 2012, both from the University of Utah. In 2011, she joined the PhET Interactive Simulations project at the University of Colorado as a postdoctoral researcher, continuing as a research scientist in 2013, and director of research and accessibility in 2015. Dr. Moore conducts research on simulation design, student simulation use, and student learning with simulations. She also leads research and development efforts to increase the accessibility of PhET simulations. Her work includes advancing the design and implementation of multimodal simulations, and focuses on modalities such as alternative input, auditory description, and sonification to support access to PhET simulations for students with visual or mobility impairments. Her leadership has resulted in the publication of PhET’s first simulations accessible to blind students. Dr. Moore has authored 30 journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings in the areas of science education, educational technology, and accessibility. She has also directed teacher professional development videos, and co-designed numerous classroom activities with K-12 teachers and higher education faculty, available for use through the university’s PhET website.
