The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Convening Awards support small scientific meetings to promote collaboration and enable a number of individuals to gather and have focused discussions and presentations.
Each year, we will fund one grant up to $75,000 and two additional grants up to $25,000 to support scientific meetings.
Applications may be submitted any time throughout the year but are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Review Cycle Deadline Extension: July 26
Grant funds can cover travel, lodging, food, meeting space, and A/V costs. Dependent-care expenses for participants may be included. In addition, funds may be used to pay for staff time to organize the event with corresponding fringe benefits and other indirect costs (limited to 12.5% of non-participant support costs).
If funds are awarded, APS will establish a memorandum of understanding with the organizer's institution to formalize financial arrangement. Organizers agree to do the following:
Selection will be based on:
A Science Advisory Panel composed of scientists appointed by The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation will meet three times per year to award grants based upon the criteria listed above. Applicants will typically be informed of the decision within ~ 4 weeks of the review deadline. Prospective convening award institutions should plan events sufficiently far in advance to allow time for review, decision, and award.
Nominees for and holders of APS Honors (prizes, awards, and fellowship) and official leadership positions are expected to meet standards of professional conduct and integrity as described in the APS Ethics Guidelines. Violations of these standards may disqualify people from consideration or lead to revocation of honors or removal from office.
