Convening Awards


The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Convening Awards support small scientific meetings to promote collaboration and enable a number of individuals to gather and have focused discussions and presentations.

Each year, we will fund one grant up to $75,000 and two additional grants up to $25,000 to support scientific meetings.

Applications may be submitted any time throughout the year but are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Nominees and award and office holders are expected to meet standards of professional conduct and integrity as described in the APS Ethics Guidelines. Violations of these standards may disqualify people from consideration or lead to revocation of honors or removal from office.

Submit an Application

Application Process

To apply, complete the online application and upload the following information in PDF form:

  1. Narrative Description (5-page maximum): Describe the topic/scientific-scope of the meeting and explain how the meeting will advance fundamental physics. Will the meeting promote efforts to develop cost-effective probes of physics beyond the Standard Model? If so describe how. Describe any other anticipated outcomes of the meeting.
  2. Biosketches: A 2-page NSF formatted biosketch for each of the PIs.
  3. Statement of Support from the Host Institution (non-applicant): 1-page maximum.
  4. Proposed Budget: Download the required budget template format-word
  5. Proposed Meeting Agenda: Must include a list of proposed speakers (non-binding) in addition to the location, dates, and anticipated number of participants.

NOTE: Only submissions that meet page requirements for each portion of the application will be reviewed. Applications may be submitted any time throughout the year but are reviewed on a rolling basis.
