The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Visitor Awards promote collaboration and the exchange of ideas by supporting nominally 1-6 week visits between researchers.
Each year we will fund up to 10 awards for 1-3 week visits (reimbursements up to $5,000) and up to 5 awards for 4-6 week visits (reimbursements up to $10,000). Visitor Awards may be combined with funds from other sources to extend a visit.
Applications may be submitted any time throughout the year but are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Review Cycle Deadline: July 15
Grant funds can cover travel, lodging, food, and modest research expenses (software, time on specific instruments, etc.) directly related to the purpose of the visit. Dependent-care expenses for the visitor may be included. Indirect costs are not allowed.
If funds are awarded, APS will either establish a contract with the host institution to formalize financial arrangements or reimbursement will be made to the visitor directly following submission of the final report. In rare cases, funds can be advanced prior to travel. Participants agree to do the following:
Selection will be based on:
A Science Advisory Panel composed of scientists appointed by The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation will meet three times per year to award grants based upon the criteria listed above. Applicants will typically be informed of the decision within ~ 4 weeks of the review deadline. Prospective visitor award recipients and host institutions should plan visit timelines in advance to allow time for review, decision, and award.
Nominees for and holders of APS Honors (prizes, awards, and fellowship) and official leadership positions are expected to meet standards of professional conduct and integrity as described in the APS Ethics Guidelines. Violations of these standards may disqualify people from consideration or lead to revocation of honors or removal from office.
