Fellowship Allocations

Fellowship is a prestigious honor bestowed on individuals who have made significant, lasting contributions to the physics community. Each year, the Fellowship committee of each APS unit may recommend a specific number of nominees for Fellowship.

How Fellowship allocations are calculated

Each year, APS units can only recommend a number of nominees that is no more than one-half percent of the current APS membership, excluding student members.

APS calculates the maximum number of Fellows that a unit can recommend based on either:

  • The unit's percentage of APS members, excluding students, which applies to Topical Groups and Divisions
  • One Fellow per 500 unit members, excluding students, which applies to Forums

All units may submit one alternative Fellow selection, which the Committee on Fellowship may allocate in the event of unused Fellow nomination slots.

The total number of Fellowship allocations across APS and our units is 149.
